Love the TRX! Did some pistol squats, there are a little challenging but burn so good! Also some bands exercises to try on your next Glutes/lower body day!! One thing I hear people say a lot is "I can't eat healthy or 'clean' because I like cake/some kind of desert too much". It may feel like this now but I guarantee that the longer you make healthy food choices that support your fitness goals, the less you will get cravings. The foods that you used to find heaps of pleasure in will be replaced by healthier options. It seems crazy but you start to get just as much enjoyment and pleasure from you new healthier favourites as what you would have from the junk food. My mom and me โ™ฅ a blurred photo but as she hates getting them taken I'm just glad to have it. So here's the question, how upright do you actually need to be when you squat? ๐Ÿ‹๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ. โ€ข We know that in most cases it's ideal to keep a neutral spine, this is often phrased as "keep a straight back" and somewhere along the line this has been misunderstood to mean keep your back straight UP. There's no such thing as a perfect squat, but natural squatters can often sink deep into a high bar squat and remain pretty upright throughout the movement. This is an attractive squat, it's a good squat, and ideally, we'd all be able to squat like that, but unfortunately this isnโ€™t the case and for some of us, trying to remain upright is an impossibility. โ€ข Here are two pictures of mine and my friend Olivia's squat (given no instruction beforehand). Olivia naturally uses a high bar squat and can remain very upright. I position the bar slightly lower on my back and have to lean forward much more in order to remain balanced. Both are good squats, the bar remains over the mid foot on both and the spine is still neutral. โ€ข How we squat, and if we can remain upright is predetermined by our anatomy. Some things that can lead to a more upright squat are- ๐Ÿ‹๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธGreater ankle dorsiflexion mobility ๐Ÿ‹๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธShorter femurs ๐Ÿ‹๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธLonger torso ๐Ÿ‹๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธHigher bar position on the back ๐Ÿ‹๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธGreater quad strength Some things that can lead to a more forward leaning squat are- ๐Ÿ‹๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธRestricted ankle dorsiflexion mobility ๐Ÿ‹๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธLonger femurs ๐Ÿ‹๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธShorter torso ๐Ÿ‹๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธLower bar position on the back ๐Ÿ‹๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธGreater glute strength โ€ข Looking at these pictures alone, you'd think Olivia was the more experienced squatter, but sheโ€™s actually brand new to lifting. Her anatomy means squatting comes quite naturally to her. In comparison, despite the fact I've been squatting for longer, my anatomy is less suited to the movement and so I've had to work hard on my form. โ€ข If squatting doesn't come naturally to you, don't worry, it's most likely down to factors out of your hands, and it just means you'll have to work harder at finding form that works for you! โ€ข Tag a friend who'll find this useful! ๐Ÿ‹๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ #noBSsquatseries
