Pose of the week: Duryodhanasana AKA internal hip rotation * This pose is from the Purna Yoga Hip Series and works to increase internal rotation in the hip joint as well as stretch the psoas. * Try it! To start: Lie on your back with your feet on the floor and knees bent at a 90 degree angle. * Step your right foot to your right, one shin length. Flex both ankles, then bring the right knee down towards the left ankle, resting on the inner edge of your right foot. Place the left foot on top of your right thigh. * Let the right buttock come up off the floor, but make sure to keep the lower belly muscles lifted/engaged to keep the lumbar spine safe. * ***if there is right knee pain, place a block or blanket under the right knee!!! (See bottom photo) * Focus on lengthening your right knee away from your head to create traction in the hip while in internal rotation. Do not press the knee towards the floor-emphasize length, and allow the right knee to drop downwards on its own (while belly muscles are simultaneously lifting towards your head). * Hold for 9 breaths and switch sides. * Remember-always safety first!! * Thanks for checking us out! Hip Activation Series - This is a great lower body movement prep. Do this series to turn on the hip rotators prior to a lower body exercise routine. Stimulate those small hip muscles, don't annihilate them. Do 1 set of 6 reps for each movement. Purna Yoga's classic sequence of six hip opening postures was created by @aadilyoga to restore and maintain full range of motion in the major actions of the hips: extension, abduction, adduction, internal rotation, and external rotation. Hip Series Anterior Hip Pain Is your hip painful with deep squatting 😣? Or any time your knee comes close to your chest😣? Then this video is for you so you can understand why it might be happening. The hip should have anterior and posterior glide as well as rotation👍. So when you sit all day and put more pressure on your anterior hip capsule then its no wonder you lose some posterior glide because the femoral head is now sitting more anteriorly than it should be👎.
